This fall the Fredonia Central School District will launch its K-8 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program at the elementary and middle schools. New spaces were dedicated to these classrooms and include large tables with plenty of room for students to collaborate and create. Elementary students attend STEM once every week with middle school students attending even more frequently.
The district has thoughtfully planned this new class and has partnered with Woz Ed to provide curricular materials. The STEM curriculum aligns with Next Generation Science standards and includes more hands-on, project-based experiences. Students will be called upon to form hypotheses, test theories, and analyze data. Our STEM classrooms make it possible for students to experience what scientists do to investigate the natural world and what engineers do to design and build systems.
Our teachers worked collaboratively with the professionals at Woz Ed to learn firsthand about the kits so our students will be instructed at the highest level. Our goal is to provide students with opportunities that foster growth and collaboration.
In the long term, our district will work to build a comprehensive STEM program and ensure that all students have acquired skills and knowledge about STEM.
